BORDA, through its interventions, contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 6 which aims to "guarantee access to water and sanitation for all and ensure sustainable management of water resources". BORDA implements three programmes in two regions of Mali and the District of Bamako.
Intervention area: Bamako, Timbuktu and Bandiagara (Dogon country)
Our approach: We provide appropriate and suitable technology for sanitation management with strong community involvement. We are also working to strengthen the local capacities of vulnerable populations for to bring about improved, sustainable living conditions.
Beneficiaries: Our beneficiaries are vulnerable populations in crisis zones (northern Mali), populations in urban and semi-urban areas, municipalities, state technical services, emptiers, and local communities.
Partners: We partner with municipalities, local NGOs, the State (Ministry of MEADD and decentralised service, DNUH (National Directorate of Town Planning and Housing), DNH (National Directorate of Hydraulics), agriculture management), WASH platforms, and other stakeholders.Our challenges:
- Ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
- Creating reliable job prospects and integrating young people into the economic activities of communities
- Helping to eliminate hunger, ensure food security and better nutrition, promote sustainable agriculture, and mediate land disputes
